航海类专业学生英语混合式教学满意度及其影响因素的实证研究
Introduction:
Withtheincreasingimportanceofinternationalshippingindustry,therehasbeenagrowingdemandformaritimeprofessionalswhoareequippedwithstrongEnglishproficiencyandrelevantspecializedknowledge.Therefore,manyuniversitiesinChinahavestartedtooffermaritimemajorsandimplementedEnglish-MediumInstruction(EMI)asawaytoimprovestudents'Englishproficiencyandfacilitatetheirfuturecareerdevelopment.However,theeffectivenessofEMIinmaritimeeducationhasnotbeenfullyexplored,andthisstudyaimstoinvestigatethesatisfactionlevelofmaritimestudentswiththemixedlanguageteachingmodelanditsinfluencingfactors.
Methodology:
DatawascollectedthroughaquestionnairesurveyaimedatmaritimestudentsinoneoftheuniversitiesinChinathatofferedEMIinmaritimemajorcourses.Thequestionnaireconsistsofquestionsaddressingstudents'satisfactionlevels,theirattitudestowardsEMI,andtheirperformanceinEnglishandprofessionalsubjects.Atotalof120validresponseswerereceivedandanalyzedusingdescriptivestatisticsandregressionanalysis.
Results:
ThefindingsshowthatthemajorityofmaritimestudentsaresatisfiedwiththemixedteachingmodelofEnglishandChinese,withanaveragesatisfactionscoreof3.45outof5.However,theirsatisfactionlevelsvaryaccordingtodifferentfactors.Forinstance,studentswhohaveastrongerfoundationinEnglishtendtobemoresatisfiedwithEMI,astheyfinditeasiertounderstandtheEnglishlectures.Meanwhile,studentswhohaveagreaterinterestinmaritimesubjectstendtobelesssatisfiedwithEMI,astheyfeelthatthelanguagebarriermayhindertheirunderstandingoftheprofessionalcontent.
Discussion:
TheresultindicatesthatwhileEMIcancontributetotheimprovementofmaritimestudents'Englishproficiency,students'satisfactionlevelsarelargelyinfluencedbytheirlearningmotivationsandEnglishproficiencylevels.OnepossibleexplanationfortheseresultsisthatstudentswithbetterEnglishproficiencymayfindthemixedteachingmethodmorecomfortableandlesschallenging,whilethosewithweakerproficiencymaystruggletokeepupwiththeEnglishlectures,leadingtolowersatisfactionscores.Therefo
