Abstract:
Forestsoilorganicmatter(SOM)playsacrucialroleinmaintainingecosystemhealthandfunctioning.UnderstandingthefactorsthatinfluenceSOMlevelsinforestsoilsisessentialforeffectivelandmanagementandconservation.ThisstudyaimstoexplorethediversefactorsinfluencingSOMinforestsoilsinGuangdongProvinceusingageneralizedadditivemodel(GAM)approach.OurfindingshighlighttheimportanceofbothabioticandbioticfactorsindeterminingSOMlevels,includingclimate,vegetation,soilproperties,andhumanactivities.ThisresearchprovidesvaluableinsightsforsustainableforestmanagementinGuangdongProvince.
1.Introduction
Forestsoilsareimportantreservoirsoforganiccarbonandareintegraltoecosystemfunctioning.Soilorganicmatter(SOM)isavitalconstituentofforestsoilsthatinfluencesnutrientcycling,waterholdingcapacity,microbialactivity,andoverallsoilhealth.UnderstandingthefactorsthatinfluenceSOMlevelsinforestsisessentialforassessingecosystemfunctioning,predictingresponsestoenvironmentalchanges,andpromotingsustainableforestrypractices.ThisstudyinvestigatesthefactorsinfluencingSOMinforestsoilsinGuangdongProvince,aregionwithdiverseforestecosystemsandanthropogenicpressures.
2.Methodology
Ageneralizedadditivemodel(GAM)approachwasemployedtoanalyzetherelationshipsbetweenSOMandvariousfactors.TheGAMallowsfortheinclusionofnonlinearrelationships,interactions,andcomplexinteractionsbetweenvariables.DatawerecollectedfrommultipleforestsitesinGuangdongProvince,includingclimatevariables(temperature,precipitation),vegetationcomposition,soilproperties(pH,nutrientcontent,texture),andhumanactivities(forestmanagement,landusechanges).
3.Results
TheGAManalysisrevealedseveralsignificantfactorsinfluencingSOMlevelsinforestsoils.ClimatevariablessuchastemperatureandprecipitationexhibitednonlinearrelationshipswithSOM,suggestingoptimalrangesforSOMaccumulation.Vegetationcompositionanddiversitywerealsofoundtobesignificantpre
