Abstract:
Thedetectionandtrackingofshipwakescanoffervaluableinsightsformaritimesurveillance,oceanography,andenvironmentalstudies.Inthispaper,anovelapproachbasedontheNon-NyquistSubsampledContourletTransform(NSCT)isproposedforshipwakedetection.TheNSCTprovidesaneffectiveframeworkforcapturingthenon-stationarycharacteristicsofshipwakes.Byanalyzingtheenergydistributionindifferentfrequencybands,theproposedmethodcanaccuratelyextractshipwakeinformationfromseaclutterandotherbackgroundnoise.Experimentalresultsdemonstratetheeffectivenessandpromisingpotentialoftheproposedapproachforshipwakedetection.
1.Introduction
Shipwakedetectionplaysacrucialroleinmaritimesurveillanceasitcanprovidesignificantinformationaboutthepresenceandbehaviorofshipsinagivenarea.Traditionaldetectionmethodsfacechallengesinseparatingshipwakesfromseaclutterandotherbackgroundnoisesduetothenon-stationaryandnon-linearnatureofshipwakes.Inthispaper,weproposeanovelshipwakedetectionmethodbasedontheNon-NyquistSubsampledContourletTransform,whichcombinesmulti-resolutionanalysisandsparserepresentationtoovercomethesechallenges.
2.ShipWakeDataCollectionandPreprocessing
Inthissection,wedescribetheprocessofcollectingshipwakedataandthenecessarypreprocessingsteps.Shipwakedatacanbeobtainedfromvarioussourcessuchassatelliteimagery,aerialphotography,andradarsystems.Wediscusstheadvantagesandlimitationsofdifferentdatasourcesandprovideguidelinesfordatacollection.
