Intheeraofdigitalcapitalism,theproductionprocesshasundergonesignificantchangeswiththeintroductionofdigitaltechnologies.Digitallaborreferstotheworkcarriedoutbyindividualsondigitalplatforms,producingdigitalcommoditiesthataresoldforprofit.Withtheriseofdigitallabor,therehavebeenconcernsabouttheexploitationoflabor,laboralienation,andthelackofregulationofthedigitallabormarket.Hence,thispaperaimstoanalyzethephenomenonofdigitallaboralienationandprovideaviablesolutionforitsmanagement.
ThePhenomenonofDigitalLaborAlienation
Digitallaboralienationisthephenomenonwhereindividualsworkingondigitalplatformsfeelisolatedfromtheproductstheyproduce.Inthedigitallabormarket,workersproducedigitalcommoditieswithlittleornoattachmenttotheproductstheyproduce.Thisisduetotheseparationbetweentheworkerandthemeansofproductionandthelackofcontroloverthefinalproduct.Workersarereducedtomereinputsintheproductionprocess,leadingtoalackofenthusiasmtowardstheirwork,whichresultsinthedeteriorationofthequalityoftheirlabor.
Oneofthecausesofdigitallaboralienationisthefragmentationoflabortasks.Inthedigitallabormarket,assignmentsarebrokendownintosmallertasksandassignedtodifferentworkers.Asaresult,workersonlyfocusonspecificaspectsofthejob,andtheyarenotabletoseethebiggerpicture.Thisleadstothefeelingofdisconnectionfromtheproduct.
Anothercauseofdigitallaboralienationisthelackofsocialinteractionbetweenworkers.Intraditionalworkplaces,employeescaninteractwitheachotherduringbreaksorlunchtime.However,inthedigitallabormarket,workersareoftenworkingremotely,andtheydonothavetheopportunitytosocializewithotheremployees.Thiscanleadtofeelingsofsocialisolationanddetachmentfromtheworkprocess.
Furthermore,thecontinuousmonitoringofworkers’productivityandthelackofcontrolovertheworkprocesscanalsocontributetothefeelingoflaboralienation.Digitallaborplatformsoftenusealgorithmsanddataanalysistomonitorworkers’productivity.Thisconstantsurveillancecanbestressfulandcanleadtoalackoftrustbetweentheemployerandth
