Contextualizededucationhasbecomeacrucialstrategyinhighereducation,especiallyinmediastudieswherestudentsareexpectedtoengagewithreal-worldscenarios.ThispaperexplorestheuseofcontextualizededucationinmediastudiesattheUniversityofSheffield.
Background
TheUniversityofSheffieldhasmadeasignificantupstreaminimplementingcontext-basedlearninginrecentyears.Contextualizededucationreferstotheprocessofgroundinglearninginreal-worldsituations,enablingstudentstoacquireskills,knowledge,andunderstandingbyplacingtheminthecontextofactualproblemsorscenarios.Researchhasshownthatcontextualizededucationiseffectiveinmotivatinglearnersandenhancingtheirengagementwiththedisciplineunderstudy.Furthermore,contextualizededucationprovidesstudentswithaplatformfordevelopingcomplexunderstandingsandcompetenciesthattheycanapplytoreal-worldscenarios.Inmediastudies,contextualizededucationoffersstudentstheopportunitytoparticipateinrealmediaprojectswhichhavesignificantimplicationsfortheindustry.
