Abstract
Inrefrigerationandstoragesystems,refrigerantshaveacrucialroletoplayinensuringthesystemworkseffectivelyandefficiently.Oneofthecriticalfactorsthatdeterminetheoptimalperformanceofrefrigerantsisthechargelevel.Thus,thisstudyaimstodeterminethebestchargelevelofRC270usedinarefrigerationandstoragesystem.TheexperimentexaminestheeffectofchargelevelontheperformanceofRC270refrigerantusingathermo-dynamiccycleanalysis.TheresultsrevealthattheoptimalchargelevelforRC270inrefrigerationandstoragesystemsiswithintherangeof70-80%.
Introduction
Refrigerantsplayasignificantroleinrefrigerationandstoragesystems,wheretheyareusedtolowerthetemperatureintherefrigerator/freezer.RC270isarefrigerantusedinrefrigerationandstoragesystems,anditschargelevelinthesystemisacriticalfactorthatdeterminestheperformanceofthesystem.Overchargingorunderchargingofarefrigerantcanleadtoinefficiencyandmaycausethesystemtomalfunction.Therefore,itisessentialtodetermineoptimalchargelevelsofRC270inrefrigerationandstoragesystems.
ResearchObjective
TheobjectiveofthisstudyistodeterminethebestchargelevelofRC270inrefrigerationandstoragesystem.ByconductinganexperimenttoexaminetheeffectofchargelevelontheperformanceofRC270refrigerant,thestudyaimstoanswertheresearchquestion:whatistheoptimalchargelevelforRC270inrefrigerationandstoragesystems?
Methodology
Theexperimentalsetupusedwasarefrigerationandstoragesystemthatconsistedofacompressor,condenser,evaporator,andanexpansionvalve.ThesystemwaschargedwithRC270refrigerantatvaryinglevelsrangingfrom50%to100%oftheratedcharge.Thesystemwaslefttostabilizefor30minutesbeforeeachtestwasconducted,withthreereplicationsmadeforeachchargecondition.
Datawerecollectedusingathermocoupletomeasurethetemperatureatvariouspointsinthesystem,andpressuregaugeswereusedtoobtainthepressuredata.Thereadingswerethenanalyzedusingathermodynamiccycleanalysistodeterminethecoefficientsofperformance(COP)andthespecificrefrigerantconsumption(SRC)ateachchargelevel.
