Abstract:
Thepresentstudyaimedtooptimizethemicrowavepreparationprocessforcorncobactivatedcarbon(CCAC)usingtheresponsesurfacemethodology.Theincreasinglygrowingdemandforactivatedcarbonasanadsorbenthassparkedtheneedforthedevelopmentofefficientandcost-effectivesynthesismethods.Microwave-assistedactivationofcorncobwasinvestigatedduetoitspotentialadvantagessuchasshorterprocessingtimeandimprovedactivationefficiency.Themainobjectiveofthisresearchwastooptimizetheprocessparametersincludingmicrowavepower,activationtime,andimpregnationratiotoachievethehighestyieldofdesirableCCACwithenhancedadsorptioncapacity.TheBox-Behnkenexperimentaldesignwasemployedtodevelopamathematicalmodelandanalyzetheinteractionsbetweenthevariables.Theoptimizedconditionsweredeterminedbasedondesirabilityfunctionanalysis.ThesynthesizedCCACwascharacterizedusingvariousanalyticaltechniquesincludingSEM,FTIR,andBETsurfaceareaanalysis.
Introduction:
Activatedcarbonhasgainedimmenseimportanceinvariousindustrialapplicationssuchaswatertreatment,airpurification,andgasseparationduetoitsexceptionaladsorptionproperties.Traditionalmethodsofactivatedcarbonproductionaretime-consumingandrequirehighenergyinput.Theutilizationofagriculturalwastematerials,suchascorncob,fortheproductionofactivatedcarbonoffersasustainableapproachtowastemanagementandprovidesacost-effectivealternative.Microwave-assistedactivationhasbeenproventobeapromisingtechniqueforthesynthesisofactivatedcarbonduetoitsenergyefficiencyandshorterreactiontime.
Methods:
1.RawMaterialPreparation:Corncobswerecollectedandthoroughlywashedtoremoveimpurities.Thecobswerethendriedandgroundtoobtainasuitableparticlesizeforactivation.
2.ExperimentalDesign:ABox-Behnkendesignwasadoptedtoinvestigatetheeffectsofmicrowavepower(X1),activationtime(X2),andimpregnationratio(X3)ontheresponsevariablessuchasyield(Y1),iodinenumber(Y2),andmethyleneblueadsorptioncapacity
