ResearchontheCompositionofLarchWoodintheEdgeMaterialWoodVinegar
Abstract:
Larchwoodisapopularbuildingmaterialduetoitsdurabilityandstrength.Inthisstudy,weaimedtoanalyzethecompositionoflarchwoodintheedgematerialwoodvinegar.Byusinggaschromatography-massspectrometry(GC-MS)andFouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy(FTIR),weidentifiedavarietyoforganiccompoundsincludingaceticacid,methanol,andphenoliccompounds.Thisresearchprovidesvaluableinsightintothechemicalcompositionoflarchwoodanditspotentialusesinthefieldofbiologyandconstruction.
Introduction:
Larchwoodiswidelyusedintheconstructionindustryduetoitsstrength,durability,andresistancetorotandinsectattack.However,asignificantamountoflarchwoodiswastedduringthemillingprocess,resultinginalargeamountofedgematerial.Woodvinegarisproducedfromthepyrolysisofwoodandiscomposedofacomplexmixtureoforganiccompounds.Theaimofthisstudywastodeterminethecompositionoflarchwoodintheedgematerialwoodvinegar.
MaterialsandMethods:
Larchwoodsampleswereobtainedfromalocallumbermill.Theedgematerialwascollectedduringthemillingprocessandstoredinplasticbagsatroomtemperatureuntiluse.Woodvinegarwasproducedbythetraditionalmethod,whichinvolvedthepyrolysisofthewoodathightemperatures.Theresultingwoodvinegarwasdistilledandstoredinaglassbottleuntiluse.
GC-MSAnalysis:
ThewoodvinegarwasanalyzedbyGC-MSusingaShimadzuGC-2010Plusgaschromatographequippedwithamassspectrometer(GC-MS-QP2010Plus).Theconditionsfortheanalysiswereasfollows:column,DB-5MS(30m×0.25mm×0.25μm);temperatureprogram,40°Cfor3min,followedbya2°C/minincreaseto180°C,heldfor10min,followedbya5°C/minincreaseto280°C,heldfor10min;injectionvolume,1μL;carriergas,helium(1mL/min);ionsourcetemperature,230°C;electronenergy,70eV.Thecompoundswereidentifiedbycomparingtheirmassspectrawiththoseinthemassspectrallibrary(NIST14).
FTIRAnalysis:
ThewoodvinegarwasalsoanalyzedbyFTIRspectroscopyusingaPerkinElmerSpectrum100FTIRspectrometer.ThesamplewasmixedwithKBr(1:100)andpressedintoapellet.Thespectrumwasrecordedove
