TheimportanceofreadingskillsforEnglishmajorfreshmencannotbeoverstated,asreadingisafundamentalaspectoflanguagelearning.Thus,thispaperaimstodelveintotheteachingstrategiesforimprovingreadingskillsinEnglishmajorfreshmenanddiscusseffectiveapproachestoaddresspotentialchallenges.
I.UnderstandingtheChallenges:
1.Limitedvocabulary:Englishmajorfreshmenoftenpossessalimitedrangeofvocabulary,hinderingtheirabilitytocomprehendcomplextexts.
2.Lackofreadingstrategies:Manystudentslackeffectivereadingstrategies,suchasskimming,scanning,summarizing,ormakinginferences.
3.Culturaldifferences:Englishliteratureandacademictextsmaycontainculturalreferencesthatareunfamiliartonon-nativeEnglishspeakers,makingcomprehensionchallenging.
4.Timeconstraint:Englishmajorfreshmenoftenfaceaheavycourseload,leavinglimitedtimeforextensivereading.
II.TeachingStrategies:
1.VocabularyDevelopment:
