Abstract
Low-DensityParity-Check(LDPC)codeshavegainedsignificantpopularityinrecentyearsduetotheirexcellentperformanceinerrorcorrectioncodinganddecoding.InLDPCcodingsystems,thechoiceofmodulationtechniqueplaysacrucialroleindeterminingtheoverallsystemperformance.Inthispaper,wefocusontheutilizationofirregularmappingtechniquesinLDPCcodingsystems.WebeginbyprovidinganoverviewofLDPCcodesandtheiradvantages.Next,weintroducevariousmodulationschemescommonlyusedinLDPCcodingsystems.Subsequently,wediscusstheconceptandapplicationsofirregularmappingtechniques.Finally,wepresentacasestudytodemonstratetheperformanceimprovementsachievedbyusingirregularmappingtechniquesinanLDPCcodingsystem.
1.Introduction
Low-densityparity-check(LDPC)codes,firstproposedbyRobertGallagerinthe1960s,havegainedsignificantattentioninrecentyearsduetotheirexcellenterrorcorrectioncapabilities,lowdecodingcomplexity,andversatilityinvariouscommunicationsystems.LDPCcodeshavebeenshowntoachievenearShannoncapacityperformance,makingthemanattractivechoiceformoderncommunicationsystems.
InLDPCcodingsystems,thechoiceofmodulationtechniqueplaysacrucialroleindeterminingthesystem'soverallperformance.ThemodulationtechniqueisresponsibleformappingthebitstreamgeneratedbytheLDPCencoderintoawaveformsuitablefortransmissionoverthecommunicationchannel.TraditionalLDPCcodingsystemsemployregularmodulationschemessuchasQuadratureAmplitudeModulation(QAM)orPhaseShiftKeying(PSK).However,theseregularmodulationschemesmaynotfullyexploitthecapabilitiesofLDPCcodes,leadingtosuboptimalperformance.
2.ModulationTechniquesinLDPCCodingSystems
ModulationtechniquesinLDPCcodingsystemsareresponsibleformappingthecodedbitsintoawaveformthatcanbetransmittedoverthecommunicationchannel.CommonmodulationschemesusedinLDPCcodingsystemsincludeQAM,PSK,andAmplitudeShiftKeying(ASK).Theseregularmodulationschemesdividetheconstellationdiagramintouniformregions,leadingtoaregularmappingpattern.
