Abstract:
Fatigueanalysisplaysasignificantroleinthedesignandmaintenanceofoffshorestructures.Accuratepredictionofthestructuralresponseunderwaveloadsiscriticaltoensuringthelong-termsafetyandreliabilityofoffshorestructures.Thispaperaimstodiscusswaveandstructuralmodelinginthefatiguecalculationofoffshorestructures,inparticular,theimportanceofincludingnon-linearwaveeffectsandmodelingthestructuralresponseinarealisticway.
Introduction:
Offshorestructuresareexposedtovariousenvironmentalloads,suchaswave,wind,current,andice,whichcancausefatigueanddamagetothestructuresovertime.Therefore,itisimportanttoconductaccuratefatigueanalysistoevaluatethestructuralintegrityandensurethelong-termsafetyofoffshorestructures.Infatigueanalysis,waveloadsareparticularlyimportantastheyaccountforasignificantportionoftheenvironmentalloadsactingonthestructures.Accuratemodelingofwaveloadsandtheireffectsonthestructuresisessentialforreliablefatigueanalysis.
WaveModeling:
Inthefatigueanalysisofoffshorestructures,waveloadsareusuallymodeledusinglinearornon-linearwavetheories.Linearwavetheoryassumesthatthewaveprofileissinusoidal,andthewave-inducedforcesonthestructureareproportionaltothewaveheightandthefirstderivativeofthewaveprofile.Whilelineartheoryiswidelyusedinpracticeduetoitssimplicityandefficiency,itignorestheimpactofwavenonlinearity,whichisparticularlyimportantforlong-periodwaves.Non-lineartheory,ontheotherhand,considerstheeffectofwavenonlinearitybyaccountingforthehigher-orderderivativesofthewaveprofile.Non-lineartheoryismoreaccuratethanlineartheoryformodelingtheextremewaveloads,suchasroguewaves,butitiscomputationallyexpensive.
StructuralModeling:
