Introduction
Boilingisawidelyobservedphenomenoninnatureandtechnology.Itisanimportantaspectinmanyindustrialprocessessuchaspowergeneration,refrigerationandcooling,andchemicalsynthesis.Boilingoccurswhenaliquidisheatedtoatemperatureatoraboveitsboilingpointandbubblesformwithintheliquid.Duringboiling,theheatistransferredfromaheatedsurfacetotheliquidbytheevaporationoftheliquidtoformvaporbubbles.Bubbledynamicsandheattransferduringboilinghavebeenextensivelystudiedastheyarecrucialindesigningefficientheattransferdevices.Inthispaper,wewillfocusonthemodelingoftheflowboilingprocessandthesimulationofbubblecharacteristicsusingtheVOFmethod.
Flowboilingisatypeofboilingwherealiquidflowsoveraheatedsurface,creatingatwo-phaseflow.Thisflowregimeiscommonlyobservedinmanyindustrialapplications,especiallyinboilingheattransferwheretheheattransferrateisgreatlyenhancedduetothepresenceofthevaporphase.Thetwo-phaseflowbehaviorinflowboilingisquitecomplexandhasbeenthesubjectofintensiveresearchovertheyears.
Numerousexperimentalandnumericalstudieshavebeenconductedtostudythecharacteristicsofboilingbubbles.Inrecentyears,numericalsimulationmethodshavebecomeincreasinglypopularinthefieldofboilingheattransfer.TheVOF(VolumeofFluid)methodisoneofthemostcommonlyusednumericalmethodsforsimulatingtwo-phaseflows,includingboiling.Inthispaper,wewilldiscusstheapplicationoftheVOFmethodinsimulatingtheflowboilingprocessandthecharacteristicsofbubbles.
TheoreticalBackground
TheVOFmethodisanumericaltechniqueforsimulatingtheinterfacebetweentwoimmisciblefluids.Themethodisbasedondividingthecomputationaldomainintocells,withineachofwhichafluidvolumefractioniscalculated.Thefluidvolumefractionindicatesthelocalfractionofeachfluidinthecell.Themethodtrackstheinterfacebetweenthefluidsbydeterminingwherethefluidvolumefractionchangesfromonefluidtotheother.
