Abstract:
Heart-BrainHealthCapsules(HBHCs)havegainedpopularityasadietarysupplementforimprovingcardiovascularandneurologicalhealth.However,thevariabilityinqualityandcompositionamongdifferentbrandsofHBHCsraisesconcernsabouttheirefficacyandsafety.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatethedifferencesinthechemicalprofilesofHBHCsfromvariouscompaniesusingHigh-PerformanceLiquidChromatography(HPLC)fingerprintingandchemometrics.
Introduction:
HBHCsarecomposedofavarietyofactiveingredients,suchasflavonoids,terpenoids,andphenoliccompounds,knownfortheircardioprotectiveandneuroprotectiveproperties.QualitycontrolofHBHCsiscrucialtoensureproductefficacyandsafety.HPLCfingerprinting,coupledwithchemometrics,providesareliablemethodtoanalyzethecomplexchemicalcompositionofherbalmedicinesandassesstheirquality.
Methods:
SamplesofHBHCsfromdifferentcompanieswerecollectedandsubjectedtoHPLCfingerprintinganalysis.AsuitableHPLCmethodwasdevelopedusingahigh-resolutioncolumnandmobilephaseoptimizedfortheseparationofthecompoundsofinterest.Thechromatographicconditionswerevalidatedforrepeatability,linearity,andaccuracy.Theobtainedchromatogramswereprocessedusingchemometricstechniques,includingprincipalcomponentanalysis(PCA)andhierarchicalclusteranalysis(HCA),toevaluatethesimilaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthesamples.
Results:
TheHPLCfingerprintingoftheHBHCsamplesrevealeddistinctchromatographicprofiles,indicatingvariationsintheirchemicalcomposition.Peaksinthechromatogramswereassignedbasedonretentiontimesandreferencestandards.Chemometricanalysiswasemployedtoanalyzethecollecteddata.PCAandHCAwereperformedtocategorizethesamplesintodifferentclusters,basedontheirchemicalprofiles.TheresultsshowedcleardifferencesinthecompositionofHBHCsfromdifferentcompanies.
