Abstract:
FreeSpaceOptics(FSO)communicationhasemergedasapromisingsolutionforhigh-speedwirelesscommunicationinvariousscenarios.However,theperformanceofFSOsystemsisconsiderablyimpactedbyatmosphericconditions,especiallyinthepresenceoffog.Thispaperfocusesonthesimulation-basedresearchofmodelingtheindoorfogchannelforFSOcommunication.TheobjectiveistounderstandtheeffectsoffogontheperformanceofFSOsystemsandevaluatepotentialmitigationtechniques.
1.Introduction:
Withtheconstantincreaseindatatrafficandthedemandforreliableandhigh-speedwirelesscommunication,FSOhasgarneredsignificantattentionasaviablealternative.FSOsystemsutilizelaserbeamstotransmitdatathroughthefreespace,eliminatingtheneedforphysicalcables.However,atmosphericconditions,suchasfog,cansignificantlydegradetheperformanceofFSOsystems,makingitnecessarytostudyandunderstanditsimpact.
2.FSOCommunicationandFog:
FSOcommunicationreliesonthepropagationoflaserbeamsthroughtheatmospheretoestablishawirelesslinkbetweenendpoints.Fogconsistsoftinywaterdropletssuspendedintheair,whichscattersandabsorbslight,leadingtoattenuation,signaldistortion,andlimitedcommunicationrange.UnderstandingthebehavioroffogchannelsinindoorenvironmentsiscrucialfordesigningefficientFSOsystems.
3.FogChannelModeling:
Tosimulatetheindoorfogchannel,variousmathematicalmodelscanbeused.OnecommonapproachistheMietheory,whichdescribesthescatteringandabsorptionoflightbysphericalparticles.Byconsideringparameterssuchasdropletsize,concentration,andfogdensity,thismodelcanprovideinsightintotheeffectsoffogonFSOcommunication.OtherapproachesincludeMonteCarlosimulations,whichsimulatethescatteringofindividualphotonstoaccuratelymodelthecomplicatedbehaviorsoffog.
4.EffectsofFogonFSOSystems:
Fogcanleadtoadecreaseinsignalpower,increasedbiterrorrate(BER),andlowercommunicationrangeinFSOsystems.Theamountofdegradationdependsonvariousfactorssuchasfogdensity,dropletsize,andthewavelengthoflightusedfortransmission.Bysimulatingd
