Abstract:
Inthispaper,wepresentasimulationanalysisoftheBitErrorRate(BER)performanceofBinaryPhaseShiftKeying(BPSK)modulationschemeinanAdditiveWhiteGaussianNoise(AWGN)channel.TheperformanceevaluationisconductedbyusingMATLABsimulationstogeneratealargenumberofrandombitsequencesandcalculatethecorrespondingBER.TheresultsobtainedfromthesimulationsprovidevaluableinsightsintotheperformanceofBPSKmodulationinthepresenceofnoiseandcanbeusedtooptimizeanddesigncommunicationsystems.
1.Introduction:
Tomeettheever-increasingdemandforreliablecommunicationsystems,itisessentialtounderstandtheperformanceofdifferentmodulationschemesinvariouschannelconditions.BPSKisapopularmodulationschemeduetoitssimplicityanditsabilitytoovercomephaseambiguityinthereceiver'sside.AWGNchanneliscommonlymodeledtoanalyzetheperformanceofcommunicationsystems.ThispaperaimstoprovideacomprehensiveanalysisoftheBERperformanceofBPSKmodulationinthepresenceofAWGN.
2.BPSKModulation:
BPSKisaformofdigitalmodulationthatusestwophases(0°and180°)torepresentbinary0and1.Themodulatedsignalisgeneratedbymultiplyingtheincomingbitstreamwithacarriersignaloffixedfrequency.TheBPSKsignalcanbeexpressedass(t)=Acos(2πfct+π(1-2bi)),whereAcistheamplitude,fcisthecarrierfrequency,andbirepresentsthebinarysequence.
3.AWGNChannel:
TheAWGNchannelisawidelyusedmodeltorepresentreal-worldcommunicationchannelswherenoiseaffectsthetransmittedsignal.Thistypeofnoiseischaracterizedbybeingwhite(uniformpowerspectraldensity)andhavingaGaussianprobabilitydensityfunction.TheeffectofAWGNonthetransmittedsignalcanbemodeledastheadditionofnoisetothereceivedsignal.
4.BERPerformanceEvaluation:
ToperformtheBERsimulationanalysis,aMATLABcodeisdevelopedtogeneraterandombitsequencesandsimulatetheBPSKmodulationscheme.ThegeneratedsequencesaremodulatedusingBPSKmodulationandthenpassedthroughtheAWGNchannel.Thereceivedsignalisdemodulated,andthebiterrorrateiscalculatedbycomparingtheoriginalandreceivedbitsequences.
