Abstract:
CMOS(ComplementaryMetal-Oxide-Semiconductor)sensorshavebecometheprimarychoiceforimagesensingduetotheirlowpowerconsumption,highintegration,andflexibility.AutomaticexposureadjustmentisacriticalfeatureofCMOSsensors,allowingthemtoadapttodifferentlightingconditionsandcapturehigh-qualityimages.However,thespeedofautomaticexposureadjustmentinCMOSsensorscanbealimitingfactorwhenitcomestocapturingrapidlychangingscenes.ThispaperproposesanovelmethodtoenhancethespeedofautomaticexposureadjustmentinCMOSsensors,improvingtheirperformanceindynamicenvironments.
1.Introduction:
CMOSsensorsarewidelyusedinvariousapplications,includingdigitalcameras,surveillancesystems,andmobiledevices.Theautomaticexposureadjustmentfeatureiscrucialtoensureoptimalimagecapture.Itaimstomaintainasuitableexposurelevelthatbalancesbrightness,contrast,anddetailindifferentlightingconditions.However,thetraditionalautomaticexposureadjustmentalgorithmsmaynotrespondquicklyenoughtorapidlychangingscenes,leadingtomotionblurorunder/over-exposure.Hence,thereisaneedtoimprovethespeedofautomaticexposureadjustmentinCMOSsensors.
2.ChallengesinAutomaticExposureAdjustment:
SeveralchallengeshinderthespeedofautomaticexposureadjustmentinCMOSsensors.Onechallengeistheruntimeoverheadassociatedwithprocessingalargenumberofpixelsinreal-time.Additionally,determiningtheoptimalexposurelevelrequiresprecisecalculationsbasedonsceneanalysis,whichcanbetime-consuming.Moreover,thelimiteddynamicrangeofCMOSsensorsposesachallengewhenitcomestohandlingsceneswithhighcontrast.
3.ProposedMethod:
ToaddresstheaforementionedchallengesandimprovethespeedofautomaticexposureadjustmentinCMOSsensors,weproposeanovelmethodthatcombineshardwareandsoftwareoptimizations.Thekeycomponentsofourmethodinclude:
