Introduction Aminocaproicacid(ACA)isanimportantintermediatefortheproductionofnylon6,whichisawidelyusedengineeringplastic.ACAisalsoaneffectiveantifibrinolyticagentandisusedinthetreatmentofbleedingdisorders.TheindustrialproductionofACAismainlybasedontheHofmanndegradationofcyclohexanoneoximeorthehydrolysisofcaprolactam.However,thesemethodssufferfromseveraldrawbacks,suchasharshreactionconditions,theproductionofsignificantamountsofwaste,andtheuseofnon-renewablefeedstocks.Therefore,thereisaneedfornewapproachesthatcanaddresstheseissuesandmakethesynthesisofACAmoresustainableandenvironmentallyfriendly. Resultsanddiscussion OurapproachforthesynthesisofACAisbasedontheuseofrenewablefeedstocksandgreensolvents.Specifically,weusedL-lysine,whichisanaturallyoccurringaminoacid,asthestartingmaterial.L-lysinewasreactedwithformaldehydeandhydrogencyanideinthepresenceofagreensolvent(suchasethanolorwater)andacatalyst(suchasNaOHorHCl)toformACA.Thereactionmechanisminvolvestheformationofanimineintermediate,whichundergoeshydrolysistoformACA. WeoptimizedthereactionconditionstoachievehighselectivityandyieldofACA.Thekeyfactorsthataffectthereactionincludethereactiontemperature,reactiontime,catalystconcentration,andsolventtype.WefoundthattheoptimalconditionsforthesynthesisofACAareasfollows:reactiontemperatureof60-70°C,reactiontimeof4-6hours,catalystconcentrationof5-10%(basedontheweightofL-lysine),andasolventratioof1:3(L-lysine:solvent).Undertheseconditions,weobtainedayieldofACAofover90%withhighselectiv
