Abstract:
Compositematerialsarewidelyusedinvariousindustriesduetotheirexceptionalmechanicalproperties.However,thepresenceofdefectswithinthesematerialscancompromisetheirstructuralintegrity,leadingtopotentialfailure.Therefore,accurateandefficientdefectdetectiontechniquesareessentialforensuringthereliabilityandsafetyofcompositestructures.Inthisstudy,weexploreanovelapproachforlayereddefectdetectionincompositematerialsusingLow-DensityRadiography(LDR)andmulti-frequencyinformationfusion.
Introduction:
Compositematerialsconsistoftwoormoreconstituentmaterialswithdifferentproperties,combinedtocreateamaterialwithenhancedcharacteristics.Thelayeringprocessinvolvedincompositemanufacturingintroducesthepossibilityofdefectsoccurringatvariousdepthswithinthematerial.Therefore,itiscrucialtodeveloptechniquesthatcandetectandlocalizedefectswithindifferentlayers.ThispaperfocusesontheapplicationofLDRandmulti-frequencyinformationfusionforlayereddefectdetectionincompositematerials.
Methodology:
1.Low-DensityRadiography(LDR):
LDRisanon-destructivetestingtechniquethatusesX-raystoexaminetheinternalstructureofmaterials.InLDR,low-energyX-raysareutilizedtoprovidehighcontrastbetweenthedifferentlayersanddefectswithincompositematerials.LDRhasproventobeeffectiveindetectingsub-surfacedefects,makingithighlysuitableforlayereddefectdetection.
2.Multi-FrequencyInformationFusion:
TheproposedapproachcombinestheinformationobtainedfrommultiplefrequenciesofX-raystoenhancethedefectdetectioncapabilities.Thefusionofdataacquiredatdifferentfrequenciesallowsforacomprehensiveanalysis,emphasizingtheuniquefeaturesofeachfrequencyrange.Thisfusionprocessimprovesdefectlocalizationaccuracyandreducesfalsepositivesandfalsenegatives,therebyincreasingthereliabilityofthedefectdetectionsystem.
ResultsandDiscussion:
Tovalidatetheeffectivenessoftheproposedmethod,experimentswereconductedusingcompositesampleswithknownd
