Abstract
Withthepopularityofmobiledevices,location-basedserviceshavebecomeincreasinglyimportant.Wi-Fiandgeomagneticfingerprinting-basedpositioningtechniqueshavebecomeoneofthemostpopularindoorpositioningtechnologies,duetotheavailabilityofWi-Firoutersanduseofsmartphonesthatcontainmagnetometers.However,theaccuracyofthesetechniquescanbeinfluencedbyvariousenvironmentalfactorsthatcausedriftinthefingerprintdatabase.Inordertoaddressthisissueandimprovetheaccuracyoflocalization,weproposeaWi-Fi-geomagneticfingerprintmatchingalgorithmthattakesintoaccountthedegreeofmatchingambiguity.
Introduction
Indoorpositioningsystems(IPS)aresystemsthatallowfortheestimationofthelocationofobjectsorpeoplewithinbuildingsorenclosedspaces.Wi-Fiandgeomagneticfingerprinting-basedpositioningtechniquesarepopularIPSmethodsthatarecommonlyusedinsmartphones.ThesetechniquesinvolvecreatingadatabaseofsignalstrengthreadingsfromWi-Firoutersandthestrengthanddirectionoftheearth'smagneticfieldatvariouslocationsintheareabeingmapped.Whenauser'sdeviceentersthismappedarea,itusesthesignalstrengthsandgeomagneticfieldstrengthanddirectiontoestimateitslocation.
However,theaccuracyofthesetechniquescanbeinfluencedbyvariousenvironmentalfactorsthatcausedriftinthefingerprintdatabase.Thesefactorsincludechangesinbuildinglayout,changesinwallmaterial,andinterferencefromenvironmentalnoise.Asaresult,errorsinthefingerprintscanleadtoinaccuratelocationestimation.
Toaddressthisissue,weproposeaWi-Fi-geomagneticfingerprintmatchingalgorithmthattakesintoaccountthedegreeofmatchingambiguity.Thisalgorithmutilizesameasureofthedegreeofambiguityinthefingerprintmatchestoimprovetheaccuracyofthelocationestimation.
Methodology
TheproposedWi-Fi-geomagneticfingerprintmatchingalgorithmconsistsoftwomaincomponents:fingerprintgenerationandfingerprintmatching.
