Background Thebasicassumptionofsoildeformationmodelingisthatthesoilisacontinuumandcanbetreatedasamaterialthatcanbedeformedunderload.Thedeformationiscausedbyavarietyoffactors,includingtheamountofstressappliedtothesoil,thesoiltype,andthesoil’sproperties.Toproperlymodelthedeformationofsoil,itisnecessarytoaccuratelycapturethebehaviorofthesoilundervariousloadconditions. TheoriginalCambridgesoilmodelwasoneofthefirstmodelsusedforsoildeformationanalysis.Itconsistsofseveralcomponentsthatrepresentthedifferentcharacteristicsofsoildeformation,includingtheelasticmodulus,plasticity,andcreep. Inrecentyears,severalmodificationshavebeenmadetotheoriginalCambridgemodeltoimproveitsaccuracyandapplicabilityinvariousgeotechnicalanalyses.Thesemodificationsincludeupdatestothecreepparameters,theincorporationoftheanisotropyofsoilfabric,andtheadaptationofthemodeltosimulatethebehaviorofunsaturatedsoils.
