Abstract:
Woodextractivesarenaturalorganiccompoundsfoundinwoodandplayacrucialroleintheoverallpropertiesandqualitiesofthewood.Thesecompounds,whichcanbebroadlyclassifiedintothreecategories,namelyphenoliccompounds,terpenoids,andfattyacids,arebiosynthesizedbyvarioustreespecies.Thispaperaimstoexplorethetypesofnaturallyoccurringcompoundsinwoodextractivesandtheirrelationshiptodifferenttreespecies.Theresearchutilizedaliteraturereviewapproachtogatherinformationonthediversityofcompoundsfoundinwoodextractivesandtherelationshipbetweenthesecompoundsandtheirsourcespecies.Thefindingsrevealthevastdiversityofnaturallyoccurringcompoundsinwoodextractivesanddemonstratetheintricaterelationshipbetweenthesecompoundsandthespecifictreespeciesfromwhichtheyarederived.
Introduction:
Woodextractivesarenon-structuralandnon-cellulosiccompoundsthatnaturallyoccurinwood.Theyarebiosynthesizedbydifferenttreespeciesandcanbeclassifiedintoseveralchemicalgroups,includingphenoliccompounds,terpenoids,andfattyacids.Woodextractivescontributesignificantlytothewood'scharacteristics,suchascolor,odor,durability,andresistancetodecay,aswellasvariousphysiologicalfunctionsforthetreeitself.Understandingthetypesofnaturalcompoundsinwoodextractivesandtheirrelationshiptospeciesiscriticalforvariousapplications,suchaswoodpreservation,wood-basedbiofuels,andpharmaceuticals.
