Abstract:
Withtherapidurbanization,oldurbanareasoftenfacechallengessuchasoutdatedinfrastructuresystems,poordrainagecapacity,andwaterpollutionduetooutdatedmixedsewersystems.TheRainwaterandSewageSeparationReconstructionprojectaimstoaddressthesechallengesbydesigninganewstormwatermanagementsystemthatseparatesrainwaterfromsewage.Thispaperpresentsacomprehensiveanalysisoftheproject'sdesignanditspotentialbenefitsforsustainableurbandevelopment.Thedesignapproachencompassesvariouselementsincludingseparatepipelines,infiltrationfacilities,rainwaterharvesting,andgreeninfrastructure.Thiscasestudyhighlightstheimportanceofrainwaterandsewageseparationinmitigatingtheimpactsofurbanizationonwaterbodiesandimprovingtheoverallqualityoflifeinoldurbanareas.
Introduction:
Therapidurbanizationinmanycitieshasledtoconsiderablechallengesforoldurbanareas.Theseregionsoftenhaveoutdatedinfrastructuresystems,inadequatedrainagecapacity,andwaterqualityissuesduetomixedsewersystems.Asaresult,heavyrainfalleventsoftencauseurbanfloodingandthedischargeofuntreatedsewageintowaterbodies,furtherexacerbatingwaterpollutionproblems.TheRainwaterandSewageSeparationReconstructionprojectaimstotackletheseissuesbydevelopingacomprehensivedesignthatseparatesrainwaterfromsewage,ensuringmoreefficientstormwatermanagementandreducingtheimpactsonwaterresources.
DesignApproaches:
1.SeparatePipelines:Thefirststepinthedesignprocessinvolvestheseparationofpipesforrainwaterandsewage.Thestormwaterdrainagesystemisredesignedtocapturerainwaterseparately,preventingitfrommixingwithsewage.Thisnotonlyreducestheriskofurbanfloodingbutalsoeliminatestheneedfortreatinglargevolumesofcombinedsewage.
2.InfiltrationFacilities:Tomanagetheseparatedrainwaterefficiently,infiltrationfacilitiessuchaspermeablepavements,raingardens,andbioretentionbasinsareincorporatedintothedesign.Thesefacilitiesallowrainwatertoinfiltrateintotheground,replenishinggroundwat
