Introduction:
TheoutbreakoftheCOVID-19pandemichascausedsignificantdisruptionstoeducationalinstitutionsworldwide,leadingtoasuddenshifttowardshome-basedonlinelearning.Thishaspresentedchallengesforstudents,particularlythosemajoringinEnglish,whorelyheavilyoninteractivecommunicationandface-to-facelearning.ThispaperaimstoempiricallyinvestigatetheadaptabilityofEnglishmajorstudentstothenewhome-basedonlinelearningecosystemandexploreeffectivestrategiestoenhancetheirlearningexperienceduringthisunprecedentedtime.
1.FactorsaffectingtheadaptabilityofEnglishmajorstudentstohome-basedonlinelearning:
a)TechnologicalCompetence:
Duetothesuddentransitiontoonlinelearning,studentsmayfacetechnicaldifficultiesandchallengesinusingonlineplatformsandtoolseffectively.Thisfactoriscrucialindeterminingtheiradaptabilitytothenewlearningenvironment.
b)Self-disciplineandTimeManagement:
Home-basedlearningrequiresstudentstomanagetheirtimeeffectivelyanddemonstratedisciplineandself-motivation.ThelackofastructuredclassroomenvironmentmaypresentchallengesforEnglishmajorstudentswhopreferface-to-faceinteractionsandguidance.
c)LearningStylesandPreferences:
Englishmajorstudentsoftenengageininteractivediscussions,presentations,andgroupactivities.Theshifttoonlinelearningmayconstraintheirpreferredlearningstylesandhindertheiradaptability.
