Abstract:
Inrecentyears,thepresenceofpreservativesincosmeticshasraisedconcernsduetotheirpotentialadverseeffectsonhumanhealth.Toensurethesafetyofcosmeticproducts,itisessentialtodevelopefficientandreliablemethodsforthedeterminationofpreservatives.Thisstudyaimedtoestablishahigh-performanceliquidchromatography(HPLC)methodforthesimultaneousdeterminationofthreecommonlyusedpreservatives(methylparaben,ethylparaben,andpropylparaben)incosmetics.Themethodinvolvedsampleextraction,purification,separation,andquantitationusingHPLC.Theoptimizedmethoddemonstratedgoodlinearity,precision,accuracy,andsensitivity.Theproposedmethodwouldprovideavaluabletoolfortheroutineanalysisofpreservativesincosmeticproducts.
1.Introduction:
Preservativesarewidelyusedincosmeticstopreventmicrobialgrowthandprolongshelflife.However,somepreservativescancauseskinirritation,allergies,andotheradverseeffectsonhumanhealth.Therefore,thedeterminationofpreservativesincosmeticsiscrucialforensuringproductsafety.Amongvariousanalyticaltechniques,high-performanceliquidchromatography(HPLC)hasgainedsignificantattentionduetoitshighsensitivity,selectivity,andaccuracy.ThisstudyaimedtodevelopanHPLCmethodforthesimultaneousdeterminationofmethylparaben,ethylparaben,andpropylparabenincosmetics.
2.Experimental:
2.1.Instruments:
TheHPLCsystemconsistedofahigh-pressurepump,anautosampler,aUV-visibledetector,andadataacquisitionsystem.TheseparationwasachievedusingaC18columnwithamobilephasecomposedofamixtureofacetonitrileandwater(adjustedtothedesiredpHwithformicacidorammoniumacetate).
2.2.Samples:
Atotalof20commercialcosmeticsamplesfromdifferentbrandswereselectedforanalysis.Thesampleswerepreparedaccordingtotheextractionandpurificationproceduresdescribedinsection2.3.
