Introduction
Withtherapiddevelopmentoftheinternetandtechnologies,traditionalclassroomteachingmethodsarebecomingoutdated.Inrecentyears,theconceptofflippedclassroomlearninghasgainedpopularity,andvariouseducationalinstitutionsareadoptingthisapproachtoimproveteachingandlearningoutcomes.ThisresearchaimstodesignandimplementaflippedclassroomlearningactivityforaccountingmajorsinvocationalcollegesinordertoenhancetheirEnglishproficiency.
Background
Invocationalcolleges,accountingmajorsarerequiredtopossessanintermediatelevelofEnglishproficiencytocommunicateeffectivelyinthebusinessworld.However,mostofthestudentsfacechallengesinmasteringEnglishlanguageskillsduetolackofmotivation,limitedin-classactivities,andinsufficienttimeforpracticing.Meanwhile,traditionalclassroomteachingmethodsareteacher-centered,wheretheteacherdeliverslectures,andthestudentslistenandtakenotes.Therefore,thestudents'participationinlearningispassive,andtheteachercannotensurethateachstudenthasfullyunderstoodthetopic.
Flippedclassroomlearning,bycontrast,isastudent-centeredapproachwherestudentstakecontroloftheirlearningprocess.Theinstructorassignsonlinecontent,suchasvideos,readings,andquizzes,forthestudentstostudybeforetheclass,andthenusesclasstimeforactivelearningactivities,suchasdiscussions,groupwork,andprojects.Thisapproachisexpectedtoprovidemoreopportunitiesforstudentstointeractwitheachotherandtheinstructorandreceivefeedbackontheirwork.
DesigningtheFlippedClassroomActivity
Theflippedclassroomactivityforaccountingmajorsinvocationalcollegeswillcomprisethefollowingstages:
Pre-classPreparation:Theinstructorwillassignpre-classreadingmaterialandavideolecture,whichwillintroducethetopic.Thevideolecturewillbecreatedusingsimpleandclearlanguage,aswellasvisualaids,tohelpstudentsunderstandthetopicbetter.
In-classActivity:Theinstructorwilldividethestudentsintosmallgroups,whereeachgroupwillbeassignedaspecifictaskrelatedtothetopic.Thestudentswillbeencouragedtodiscussandexchangeideasaboutthetopicwithi
