Abstract:
Incoloy800isahighlyversatilenickel-iron-chromiumalloypopularlyusedforitsexcellentmechanicalproperties,resistancetooxidationandcorrosion,andhightemperaturestrength.BellowsExpansionJointsmadefromIncoloy800arecommonlyemployedinvariousindustrialapplicationstoaccommodatethermalexpansionorcontraction.However,insomeinstances,theseexpansionjointsmayexperiencecrackingandsubsequentfailure.ThispaperaimstoanalyzethepotentialcausesofIncoloy800bellowsexpansionjointfailureduetocracking.
Introduction:
Incoloy800iswidelyrecognizedforitsexceptionalresistancetooxidation,carburization,andnitridinginhigh-temperatureenvironments.Itretainsitsstrengthandductilityevenwhensubjectedtoaggressivethermalconditions.Bellowsexpansionjointsareusedtoabsorbthermalexpansionorcontractionofpipes,ducts,andvessels,therebymitigatingstressandpreventingpossibledamage.However,thefailureoftheseexpansionjointscanresultinsevereconsequences,includingleaks,downtime,andpossiblehazards.Therefore,itiscrucialtoinvestigatethecausesofcrackingandsubsequentfailureofIncoloy800bellowsexpansionjoints.
