Abstract:
MobileAdhocNetworks(MANETs)arecharacterizedbythedynamicandself-organizingnatureoftheirnodes,makingenergyefficiencyacriticalfactorfortheirsuccessfuloperation.Inthispaper,weproposeaMinimumEnergyRouting(MER)protocolbasedontheDynamicSourceRouting(DSR)algorithmforMANETs.TheMERprotocolaimstominimizeenergyconsumptionwhilemaintainingreliableandefficientroutingwithinthenetwork.Throughsimulationexperimentsandperformanceanalysis,wedemonstratetheeffectivenessoftheMERprotocolinreducingenergyconsumptionandprolongingthenetworklifetime.
1.Introduction:
Inrecentyears,theproliferationofwirelesscommunicationtechnologiesandtheincreasingpopularityofportabledeviceshaveledtotheemergenceofMANETs.Unliketraditionalwirednetworks,MANETshavenofixedinfrastructureorcentralizedcontrol,relyingonacooperativeeffortbetweennodestoestablishandmaintainnetworkconnectivity.Duetothelimitedbatterylifeofmobiledevices,energyefficiencyisacrucialconsiderationinthedesignofroutingprotocolsforMANETs.
2.RelatedWork:
NumerousroutingprotocolshavebeenproposedtoaddresstheenergyefficiencychallengeinMANETs.However,manyoftheseprotocolseitherfocussolelyonminimizingenergyconsumptionwithoutconsideringotherperformancemetrics,ortheydonotadaptwelltochangesinnetworkconditions.TheDSRprotocolisknownforitsabilitytoprovideon-demandroutinginMANETs.Inthispaper,weleveragetheadvantagesofDSRandproposetheMERprotocoltofurtherenhanceenergyefficiency.
3.MinimumEnergyRouting(MER)Protocol:
TheMERprotocolisdesignedtominimizeenergyconsumptionwhilemaintainingreliableroutinginMANETs.ItleveragestheDSRalgorithmandenhancesitwithenergy-awaremechanisms.ThekeycomponentsoftheMERprotocolincluderoutediscovery,routemaintenance,androuteselection.
