Abstract:
Theaccuratedeterminationofseleniumelementcontentisessentialforvariousapplications,includingenvironmentalmonitoring,foodanalysis,andbiomedicalresearch.However,interferencefromotherelementscanoftenhindertheprecisemeasurementofselenium.Tocombatthisissue,atechniquecalledHydrideGenerationAtomicFluorescenceSpectrometry(HG-AFS)hasbeendeveloped.ThispaperaimstoinvestigatetheeffectivenessofHG-AFSineliminatinginterferenceinthedeterminationofseleniumelementcontent.
Introduction:
Seleniumisanessentialtraceelementthatplaysacrucialroleinhumanhealth,animalnutrition,andtheenvironment.Itexistsinvariousformsandcanbepresentincomplexmatrices.Therefore,accuratedeterminationofseleniumcontentischallengingduetopotentialinterferencefromotherelementsandcompounds.Interferencecanarisefromcoexistingelementssuchassulfur,copper,andarsenic,aswellasorganicmoleculesthatcanformcomplexeswithselenium.Overcomingtheseinterferencesisvitaltoensurereliableandprecisemeasurements.
HG-AFSTechnique:
HydrideGenerationAtomicFluorescenceSpectrometry(HG-AFS)isapowerfultechniqueforthedeterminationofseleniumcontent.InHG-AFS,seleniumisconvertedintogaseoushydridecompoundsthroughareactionwithreducingagents,suchassodiumborohydrideorstannouschloride.Thegaseoushydrideisthentransportedtoanatomicfluorescencespectrometer,whereitisatomizedandexcitedbyradiantenergyfromasuitableradiationsource.Theresultingfluorescenceintensityisproportionaltotheconcentrationofseleniumpresent,allowingforquantitativemeasurement.
EliminationofInterference:
HG-AFSoffersseveraladvantagesineliminatinginterferenceinthedeterminationofseleniumcontent.Firstly,theconversionofseleniumintoagaseoushydridecompoundallowsforeffectiveseparationfromcomplexmatrices.Coexistingelementsandcompoundsthatdonotformvolatilehydridesareeffectivelyremoved,minimizinginterference.Additionally,theatomicfluorescencespectrometerprovidesexcellentselectivityforselenium,allowingforac
