Introduction:
LNGstorageisacrucialpartoftheLNGsupplychain.Inordertomaintainsafetyandreliability,large-scaleLNGstoragetanksaredesignedandconstructedwithstrictrequirements.Thestaticanalysisofsuchtanksisanimportantaspectthatmustbetakenintoconsiderationduringthedesignphase.Inthispaper,wewilldiscussthestaticanalysisofthreelarge-scaleLNGstoragetankswithacapacityof160,000m³each.
TankDesign:
LNGstoragetanksaredesignedusingavarietyofmaterialssuchascarbonsteel,stainlesssteel,andaluminum.Inthisproject,wehaveoptedforcarbonsteelasitisthepreferredmaterialforlarge-scaleLNGstorage.Thetankshaveadiameterof85metersandaheightof88meters.Theyhaveamaximumcapacityof160,000m³ofLNG.ThetanksaredesignedtowithstandthehightemperatureandpressurechangesthatoccurduringthestorageandhandlingofLNG.
StaticAnalysis:
Staticanalysisofthetanksiscarriedouttodeterminethestressesanddeformationsinthetanksunderdifferentloadingconditions.Theanalysisiscarriedoutusingfiniteelementmethod(FEM).Thetanksaresubjectedtofivedifferentloadingconditions,namely:deadload,windload,seismicload,thermalload,andhydrostaticload.
DeadLoad:
Thedeadloadofthetanksisdeterminedbytheweightofthetanks,theinsulation,andtheLNG.Theweightofthetanksiscalculatedbasedontheirdimensions,material,andthickness.Theinsulationweightisdeterminedbasedonthetypeofinsulationusedinthetanks.TheweightoftheLNGiscalculatedbasedonitsdensityandvolume.Thedeadloadisevenlydistributedoverthetanksandisconsideredapermanentload.
WindLoad:
Thewindloadonthetanksiscalculatedbasedonthelocalwindspeedandtheexposurecategoryofthesite.Thewindloadisatransientloadthatisappliedtothetanksinthehorizontaldirection.Theloadisdistributedonthetanksbasedontheirsurfacearea.Thetanksaresubjectedtodifferentwindspeedsfromdifferentdirectionstosimulatethecomplexwindloadingconditions.
SeismicLoad:
Theseismicloadonthetanksiscalculatedbasedonthesite-specificseismichazardandthesoilproperties.Thetanksaredesignedtowithstandtheforcesgeneratedbytheseismiceventwithoutfailure.Theseismiclo
