1.Introduction
Withtherapiddevelopmentofcloud-basedcomputingtechnologies,theconceptofNetworkFunctionsVirtualization(NFV)isbecomingmoreandmorepopularinthefieldoftelecommunications.NFVleveragesvirtualizationtechniquestodelivernetworkservicesandfunctions,includingthosethatwerepreviouslyprovidedbyproprietaryhardwaredevices,inasoftware-basedinfrastructure.OneofthekeybenefitsofNFVisthatitenablesserviceproviderstoreduceoperationalcostswhileincreasingnetworkagility.Additionally,NFVcanenablethedeliveryofserviceswithimprovedQualityofExperience(QoE)forend-users.
Inthispaper,wefocusonevaluatingtheperformanceofSD-EONbasedontheNFVmappingQoEalgorithm.Thisalgorithmisdesignedtoensurethatend-usersreceivethebestpossibleQoEwhenusingSD-EON.
2.NFVMappingQoEAlgorithm
TheNFVmappingQoEalgorithmisdesignedtoensurethatnetworkservicesandfunctionsaremappedtothemostappropriatevirtualresources.Thealgorithmtakesintoaccountavarietyoffactors,includingthecurrenttrafficload,theavailabilityofvirtualresources,andthequalityrequirementsofthenetworkservices.Basedonthesefactors,thealgorithmworkstoensurethatnetworkservicesaremappedtotheappropriatevirtualresourcestoensureoptimalQoEforend-users.
TheNFVmappingQoEalgorithmoperatesinthreestages.First,itanalyzesthenetworktopologytoidentifytheavailablevirtualresources.Second,itanalyzesthetrafficloadandservicerequirementstoidentifythemostsuitablevirtualresourcesforeachnetworkservice.Finally,itdynamicallymapsnetworkservicestovirtualresourcesbasedonthechangingnetworkconditions.
3.PerformanceEvaluationofSD-EONwithNFVMappingQoEAlgorithm
ToevaluatetheperformanceofSD-EONwiththeNFVmappingQoEalgorithm,weconductedaseriesofexperimentsusingasimulatednetworkenvironment.Inoursimulation,weevaluatedtheperformanceofSD-EONunderdifferenttrafficloadsandQoSrequirements.
OurresultsshowthatSD-EONwiththeNFVmappingQoEalgorithmisabletoprovideahighQoEforend-users,evenunderheavytrafficloadsandstringentQoSrequirements.Thealgorithmisabletodynamicallymapnetworkservicestotheap
