Themanipulationoflightiscrucialforvariousfields,rangingfromtelecommunicationstosensingapplications.Amongthemanytechniquesavailable,thecontrollingofgroupdelayinopticalfibershasgainedsignificantattentionduetoitspotentialapplicationsinsignalprocessing,dispersioncompensation,andphotonics.ThispaperpresentsanovelmethodforthermallyinducedgroupdelaymanipulationbasedonrecentresearchconductedattheShanghaiInstituteofOpticsandFineMechanics.Theproposedmethodoffersaversatileandefficientsolutiontomanipulategroupdelayinopticalfibers,expandingtheirfunctionalitiesandpavingthewayforinnovativeapplicationsinvariousdomains.

1.Introduction
Theabilitytomanipulatethegroupdelayoflightpropagatingthroughopticalfibershasattractedconsiderableinterestinrecentyears.Thisparametercontrolenablestheimplementationofadvancedfunctionalitiesinopticalcommunicationsystems,suchasdispersioncompensationandsignalprocessing.TraditionalmethodsofalteringgroupdelayinvolvetheuseofspecializeddeviceslikefiberBragggratings,dispersioncompensatingfibers,andopticaldelaylines.However,thesemethodsoftensufferfromlimitationslikecomplexity,highcost,andlimitedtunability.
2.Methodology
ThemethodproposedbytheShanghaiInstituteofOpticsandFineMechanicsleveragesthethermallyinducedpropertiesofopticalfiberstocontrolthegroupdelay.Theconceptisbasedontheunderstandingthattherefractiveindexoftheopticalfiberisaffectedbychangesintemperature.Inthismethod,atemperaturegradientisappliedalongthelengthofthefiber,resultinginacontrolledvariationoftherefractiveindex.Bycarefullydesigningthetemperatureprofile,itbecomespossibletoalterthegroupdelayexperiencedbylighttravelingthroughthefiber.
