Abstract:
Freeradicalspresentinmainstreamcigarettesmokeareknowntocontributetotheharmfuleffectsassociatedwithsmoking.Theabilitytoaccuratelymeasurethetotalamountofsolid-phasefreeradicalsinthesmokeisessentialforunderstandingtheirroleinsmoking-relateddiseases.Thispaperpresentsanovelmethodfordeterminingthetotalamountofsolid-phasefreeradicalsinmainstreamcigarettesmoke.Themethodcombineselectronparamagneticresonance(EPR)spectroscopywithtemperatureprogrammeddesorption(TPD)toprovidecomprehensiveandquantitativeanalysis.Theproposedmethodhasthepotentialtocontributesignificantlytothefieldofcigarettesmoketoxicologyandaidinthedevelopmentofreduced-risktobaccoproducts.
1.Introduction
Cigarettesmokecontainsvarioustoxiccomponents,includingfreeradicals,whicharehighlyreactivechemicalspeciesthatcancausedamagetocellularcomponentsandinitiateoxidativestress.Solid-phasefreeradicalsinmainstreamcigarettesmokehavebeenassociatedwithnumeroussmoking-relateddiseases.Anaccuratemeasurementoftheseradicalsiscrucialtoassesstheharmpotentialofdifferenttobaccoproductsandevaluatetheeffectivenessofsmokingcessationmethods.Thus,thedevelopmentofareliableandcomprehensivemethodforquantifyingsolid-phasefreeradicalsinmainstreamcigarettesmokeisofgreatimportance.
2.Methodology
