Abstract:
Thedemandforefficientandreliablewirelesscommunicationsystemshasledtothedevelopmentofvarioustechniquesandtechnologies.OrthogonalFrequencyDivisionMultiplexing(OFDM)isawidelyusedmodulationschemeinwirelesscommunicationsystemsduetoitsabilitytoprovidehighdatarates,robustnessagainstmultipathfading,andspectralefficiency.Inrecentyears,GeneralizedLayeredSpace-TimeBlockCoding(GLSTBC)hasemergedasapromisingtechniquetoimprovetheerrorperformanceandspectralefficiencyofOFDMsystems.Thispaperproposesanovelpre-encodedGLSTBC-OFDMtechniquethatfurtherenhancestheperformanceofcommunicationsystems.
1.Introduction
Withtheincreasingpopularityofmultimediaapplicationsandtheever-growingneedforhigherdatarates,thereisacontinuousdemandforadvancementsinwirelesscommunicationsystems.OFDM,beingamulticarriermodulationtechnique,hasgainedconsiderableattentionduetoitsabilitytomitigatetheeffectofmultipathfadingandachievehighspectralefficiency.However,theperformanceofOFDMsystemscanbedegradedinthepresenceoffadingchannelsandinterference.Toaddresstheseissues,differentdiversitytechniqueshavebeenproposed,amongwhichGLSTBChasshownpromisingresults.
2.LiteratureReview
ThissectionwillprovideacomprehensivereviewoftheexistingliteratureonOFDM,GLSTBC,andtheircombinations.Itwillhighlightthevariouschallengesfacedinthesesystemsandthetechniquesproposedtoovercomethem.Thelimitationsofexistingapproacheswillbediscussed,leadingtothemotivationfortheproposedpre-encodedGLSTBC-OFDMtechnique.
3.Pre-encodedGLSTBC-OFDMTechnique
Theproposedtechniqueemploysapre-encodingprocessbeforetransmittingthedatasymbolsovertheOFDMsystem.Thispre-encodingprocessresolvesthedatasymbolassignmentsacrossmultipleantennasandsubcarriersefficiently.Theencodingprocessisbasedontheconceptoflayeredcoding,wheremultiplelayersofdatasymbolsaretransmittedsimultaneously.Thepre-encodeddatasymbolsarethentransmittedovertheOFDMsystemusingGLSTBC.Thiscombinationofpre-encoding,layeredcoding,andGLSTBCaimst
