Abstract:
WiMAX(WorldwideInteroperabilityforMicrowaveAccess)isawirelesscommunicationtechnologythatprovideshigh-speedbroadbandaccessoverlongdistances.QualityofService(QoS)isacrucialaspectofWiMAXnetworks,ensuringthatdifferentclassesoftrafficreceivetherequiredbandwidthandperformanceguarantees.ThispaperaimstoanalyzevariousQoSschedulingalgorithmsinWiMAXsystems,discussingtheirstrengths,weaknesses,andsuitabilityfordifferentdeploymentscenarios.
Introduction:
WiMAXnetworksemploydifferentschedulingalgorithmstoefficientlyallocatenetworkresourcesandensureQoSfordifferenttypesoftraffic,includingvoice,video,anddata.Theselectionofanappropriateschedulingalgorithmiscriticaltomeetthediverserequirementsofapplicationsandusers.
QoSRequirements:
VariousQoSparametersneedtobeconsideredwhiledesigningschedulingalgorithms,suchasdelay,jitter,packetloss,throughput,andfairness.DifferentapplicationshavedifferentQoSrequirements,anddesigningefficientschedulingalgorithmsiscrucialtomeettheserequirements.
QoSSchedulingAlgorithms:
ThissectiondiscussessomeofthecommonlyusedQoSschedulingalgorithmsinWiMAXnetworks:
1.StrictPriorityScheduling:
StrictPrioritySchedulingassignsprioritiestodifferenttrafficclassesandservesthemintheorderoftheirpriority.Thisalgorithmguaranteesthehighestprioritytrafficaccesstothenetworkresources.However,starvationmayoccurforlowerpriorityclasses.
2.WeightedFairQueuing:
WeightedFairQueuingallocatesbandwidthtodifferentclassesbasedontheirpriorityandweights.Thisalgorithmimprovesfairnessamongtrafficclassesbydistributingnetworkresourcesproportionally.
3.ProportionalFairScheduling:
ProportionalFairSchedulingconsidersbothfairnessandthroughput.Itisdesignedtoachieveatrade-offbetweenfairnessandsystemthroughput.Thisalgorithmfavorstheuserswithbetterchannelconditionswhileensuringsomeleveloffairnessamongallusers.
4.MaximumSIRScheduling:
