Abstract:
Capillaryelectrophoresis(CE)isapowerfulanalyticaltechniqueusedfortheseparationandanalysisofchargedanalytes.Inthisstudy,aCEmethodwithlight-emittingdiode(LED)arraydetectionwasdevelopedfortheanalysisofrollerballpenink.TheaimofthisresearchwastodeterminethecompositionandqualityofrollerballpeninksusingCEwithLEDarraydetection.
Introduction:
Rollerballpensarewidelyusedforwriting,buttheinkcompositioncanvarysignificantlyamongdifferentbrandsandbatches.Therefore,thereisaneedforareliableanalyticalmethodtodeterminethecompositionandqualityofrollerballpenink.Capillaryelectrophoresis(CE)isanestablishedtechniquefortheseparationandanalysisofchargedanalytes.Theuseofalight-emittingdiode(LED)arraydetectorinCEoffersadvantagessuchasmultichanneldetectionandimprovedsensitivity.Inthisstudy,weproposetheuseofCEwithLEDarraydetectionfortheanalysisofrollerballpenink.
Methodology:
Thefollowingstepswereperformed:
1.SamplePreparation:Rollerballpeninksampleswerecollectedfromdifferentbrandsandbatches.
2.CESeparation:AcapillaryelectrophoresissystemequippedwithafusedsilicacapillaryandaLEDarraydetectorwasusedfortheseparationofthesamples.Theseparationconditionsincludingbuffercomposition,pH,andappliedvoltagewereoptimized.
3.LEDArrayDetection:TheLEDarraydetectorwasusedforthedetectionoftheseparatedanalytes.TheLEDarraywascomposedofmultipleLEDsemittinglightatdifferentwavelengths.Theemittedlightwasdetectedbyaphotodiodearray.Thesignalsfromthephotodiodeswerecollectedandanalyzed.
Results:
ThedevelopedCEmethodwithLEDarraydetectionshowedexcellentseparationofrollerballpeninkcomponents.TheLEDarrayprovidedsimultaneousdetectionofmultipleanalytes.Theobtainedelectropherogramsshoweddistinctpeakscorrespondingtodifferentinkcomponents.Thepeakareaswereusedforquantificationoftheinkcomponents.Themethodwasvalidatedbyanalyzinginksamplesfromdifferentbrandsandbatches,andtheresultswerecomparedwiththoseo
