Withtheincreasingdemandforreal-timeandquality-dependentapplicationssuchasvideostreaming,onlinegaming,andteleconferencing,theneedforQualityofService(QoS)guaranteeinpacket-switchednetworkshasbecomeessential.QoSreferstotheabilityofanetworktodeliverperformanceparameterssuchasthroughput,delay,reliability,andjitter,meetingtherequirementsofdifferentapplications.ThispaperaimstoanalyzethevariousnetworkarchitecturesthatofferQoSguaranteetoaccommodatethegrowingdemandsofbandwidth-hungryapplications.
1.Circuit-switchedvs.Packet-switchedNetworks:
Circuit-switchednetworksestablishadedicatedpathfortheentiredurationofacommunicationsession,ensuringconstantbandwidthandlowlatency.However,theyarenotscalableandinefficientinutilizingtheavailableresources.Ontheotherhand,packet-switchednetworksdividedataintosmallpacketsandtransmitthemindependently,allowingmultiplepacketstosharethesamenetworkpathsimultaneously.ThisenhancesnetworkefficiencybutraiseschallengesforQoSguaranteeduetothevariablenatureofpackettransmission.
