Introduction
ThecateringindustryisoneofthebustlingbusinessesinBeijing.Itcomprisesofrestaurants,fast-foodoutlets,bakeries,cafes,amongotherfoodservicebusinesses.Beijinghasadiverseeatingculturewithawiderangeoflocalandinternationalcuisines.Duetothesignificanturbanization,westernization,andglobalizationinBeijing,thecateringindustryhasgrowncontinuously,leadingtomassproductionanddistributionoffood.Ontheotherhand,foodwastehasbecomeasignificantchallengefacingthecateringindustryinBeijing.ThispaperaimstoexploretheproblemoffoodwasteinBeijing'scateringindustry.
WhatisFoodWasteintheCateringIndustry?
Foodwastereferstofoodthatisdisposedofbeforeitisconsumedeitherdirectlyorthroughthesupplychain.Foodwasteoccursthroughoutthefoodsystem,fromfarmtoplate.Foodwasteinthecateringindustrycomprisesofnotonlythefoodcomponentsbutalsothepackaging,utensils,andcontainersusedtoservethefood.ThecateringindustryinBeijingissusceptibletofoodwasteduetoitssize,complexity,anddiversity.
CausesofFoodWasteintheCateringIndustry
