Introduction:
Asthedemandforbilingualprofessionalscontinuestogrowintheglobalmarket,theemploymentsituationforEnglishmajorstudentshasdrawnsignificantattention.ThisresearchaimstoinvestigateandanalyzetheemploymentsituationofEnglishmajorstudentsinSichuanNormalUniversity(SNU),sheddinglightontheprospectsandchallengesfacedbygraduates.
Methodology:
Toaccomplishourstudy,asurveyquestionnairewasdesignedanddistributedamongEnglishmajorstudentsinSNU.Thesurveyincludedquestionsregardingstudents'employmentintentions,internshipexperiences,preferredindustries,andanychallengestheyfacedduringtheirjobsearch.Atotalof300studentsparticipatedinthesurvey.
Findings:
1.Employmentintentions:
Thestudyrevealedthat70%ofEnglishmajorstudentsinSNUexpressedadesiretofindemploymentimmediatelyaftergraduation,while20%intendedtopursuefurthereducationandtheremaining10%wereundecided.
2.Internshipexperiences:
Approximately60%ofEnglishmajorstudentshadcompletedatleastoneinternshipduringtheiruniversityyears.Amongthose,40%hadinternedinEnglisheducationinstitutions,25%intranslationcompanies,20%ine-commercecompanies,andtheremaining15%invariousotherindustries.Theinternshipexperienceswereseenasasignificantfactorinsecuringfutureemployment.
3.Preferredindustries:
TheresearchalsoexploredthepreferredindustriesforEnglishmajorgraduates.ThetopthreechoiceswereEnglishteachingpositions,translationandinterpretationservices,andinternationaltradeandexportindustries.ThisdatahighlightstheimportanceofensuringEnglishmajorstudentsreceiveappropriatetrainingandexposuretothesefields.
4.Challengesfacedduringjobsearch:
Whenaskedaboutthechallengesencounteredduringtheirjobsearch,Englishmajorstudentsprimarilymentionedthelackofjobopportunitiesrelatedtotheirdegree,intensecompetitionforpositions,andinadequateEnglishproficiencyrequirementsfromemployers.Over45%ofstudentsalsoexpressedconcernsaboutthelowstartingsalaryintheirdesiredindustry.
