Abstract:
Microbiologicalexaminationisacrucialstepinensuringthesafetyandqualityofcosmeticproducts.Cosmeticsthatcontainfermentationproductsaregainingpopularityduetotheirpotentialbenefitsfortheskin.However,theseproductsalsoposeuniquechallengesformicrobiologicaltesting.Thisstudyaimstoevaluateandcomparetheapplicabilityofvariousmicrobiologicalexaminationmethodsforcosmeticscontainingfermentationproducts.Theresultsprovideinsightsintothemostsuitablemethodsforensuringthemicrobiologicalsafetyoftheseproducts.
Introduction:
Cosmeticsformulatedwithfermentationproducts,suchasyeastextract,probiotics,andfermentedplantextracts,havegainedsignificantattentioninthebeautyandskincareindustry.Thefermentationprocessenhancesthebioavailabilityofactivecompounds,improvestexture,andincreasestheshelflifeofcosmetics.Asconsumerdemandfornaturalandsustainableproductsgrows,cosmeticswithfermentation-derivedingredientsarebeingutilizedmorefrequently.
However,thepresenceoffermentationproductsincosmeticscreateschallengesfortraditionalmicrobiologicalexaminationmethods,astheseproductscancontainlivemicroorganismsortheirmetabolites.Microorganismpresenceandactivityresultingfromfermentationcanimpactproductstability,shelflife,andsafety.Therefore,itisessentialtodevelopsuitablemethodsforassessingthemicrobiologicalqualityofcosmeticscontainingfermentationproducts.
Methods:
Todeterminetheapplicabilityofvariousmicrobiologicalexaminationmethods,acomparativeanalysiswasconducted.Severalestablishedandcommonlyusedmethodswereevaluated,includingtotalviablecount(TVC),identificationofspecificmicroorganisms,preservativeefficacytesting,anddetectionofmetabolites.Avarietyofcommercialcosmeticscontainingfermentation-derivedingredientswereselectedforanalysis.
Results:
