Emulsionpolymerizationisawidelyusedtechniqueforsynthesizingpolymerswithvariousapplications.Thestabilityandeffectivenessoftheemulsionsystemarecrucialforachievingdesiredpolymerproperties.Surfactantsplayavitalroleinemulsionpolymerizationastheycansignificantlyimpactthestability,particlesize,anddistributionofthepolymerparticlesformed.Thispaperaimstoexploretheapplicationofsurfactantsinemulsionpolymerization,focusingontheirroleinstabilizingtheemulsionsystem,controllingparticlesize,andenhancingpolymerproperties.
1.Introduction
Emulsionpolymerizationinvolvesthedispersionofmonomersinwaterusingsurfactantsasemulsifierstoformstabledroplets.Thesedropletsactasmicroreactorswherepolymerizationoccurs,resultingintheformationofpolymerparticles.Surfactantsareresponsibleforprovidingstabilitytotheemulsionsystembyreducingtheinterfacialtensionbetweenmonomersandwater,preventingcoalescence,andcontrollingtheparticlesizedistribution.
2.SurfactantTypesandSelection
