Someholdthepositiveview.Theyclaimthatrankinguniversitiescanhelphighschoolgraduatesortheirparentstomakeasoundchoicewhenenrollinginauniversityorcollege.Besides,thispracticecanhelppromotethelevelofhighereducationasawholeinthatmanyuniversitieswillexerteffortstoelevatetheirposition.
Others,however,holdtheoppositeview.Theypointoutthattheresultofrankingisnotalwayscredible,formanyindividualsorinstitutionsdoitmerelyforthepurposeofcolletingmoney.Furthermore,someuniversitiesoveremphasizetheresultofrankingandwastelargeamountsofresources.
Personally,Ibelievethatweshouldnotgotoextremes.Ontheonehand,itmustbeadmittedthatrankingisaneffectivemeanstoencourageuniversitiesorcollegestopetewitheachotherandimprovetheirwork.Ontheotherhand,itshouldnotbeconductedandusedinthewrongway.
