第一篇：剑桥大学毕业致辞TheUniversityofCambridgeisaplace,acommunity,andaninstitution.Itisalsoapervasivepresenceintheworld.TheCambridgeUniversitycommunityispreponderantlyBritish:75%ofouracademicstaffareBritish,85%ofourundergraduates,andalmost50%ofourpostgraduates.CollegiateCambridgeremainsdeeplycommittedtotheeducationofoutstandingBritishstudents.ThatassertionisfullyconsonantwithaCambridgefastbecomingmoreinternationalinmany,manyways.AwealthofresearchcollaborationsbetweenCambridgeacademicsandcolleaguesaroundtheworldaredocumentedintheonlineInternationalDirectorytobelaunchedbytheUniversitythisyear.AlthoughteachingandlearningarestilloverwhelminglyCambridge-basedactivitiesandrelativelyfewstudentsstudyabroad,thenumberofinternationalprogrammesfortrainingandeducationisgrowing.CambridgeUniversity¡¯sglobalpresenceissuchthatalreadyithasfewifanyequals.WhatCambridgedoeswell,andmustkeepdoing,isrespondtochangeintheworldandhelpshapeandleadit.Asmoreandmorepeopleliveandworkacrossarangeofcultures,ourteachingmusthelpprepareourstudentsforthatlife.Forgraduatestudents,thepotentialtransformationofCambridgetoafullyinternationalUniversitycouldbemuchcloserifthedeclinecontinuesinthenumberofBritishstudentsstudyingfordoctoraldegrees,withdramaticshrinkageincertainfields.Thesestudentsarenotbeingkeptoutbyinternationalstudents:theyarenotapplying,ornotapplyinghere.WemustimprovefundingforUKpostgraduatestudentsasamatterofurgency.Cambridgeisamongthemostbeautifuluniversitiesintheworld,andexperiencingthatbeautyispartofwhatitmeanstobeatCambridge.Weareanintegralpartofalivelyandinterestingcity.Therewasatimeinthe1950sand60swhenthingslookeddifferent,andtheuniversitywastoodominantinthelocaleconomyforanyone¡¯shealth.Thatchanged,happily.ThevitalityofGreaterCambridgetodaydependsonamixoflong-establishedbusinesses,start-ups,privateandpublicsectorresearchlabs,not-for-profitorganizations,thestaffandstudentsoftwouniversities,oneregionalcollege,amajorteachinghospital,andawidearrayofschools.Inhistoricalterms,this¡°virtuousci
