第一篇：物理学专业的自我陈述OneofthemostappealingfeaturesofPhysicsisthewaythatcomplexphysicalphenomenacanbeexplainedbysimpleandeleganttheories.IenjoythelogicalaspectofthesubjectandIfinditverysatisfyingwhenalltheseparatepiecesofaproblemfalltogethertocreateonesimpletheory.MyinterestandaptitudeformathsaddsanextradimensiontoStudyingscience,particularlyPhysics.Irelishthechallengeofacomplicatedproblembothinphysicsandmathematics.Iamalsoakeenpracticalphysicist,duringadegreeIwouldliketokeepintouchwiththepracticalsideofthesubject.Myinterestinscienceextendsoutsidetheclassroom.Ikeepuptodatewithnewdevelopmentsandideasbyreadingaroundmyschoolsubjectsinbooksandalsoinjournalssuchas“NewScientist”and“ScientificAmerican”.IhavereadbooksbyRichardFeynman,RichardDawkinsandlanStewart,IalsoparticularlyenjoyedJohnArchibaldWheeler's“AJourneyintoGravityandSpacetime”.ThesebookschallengemeinawaythatisverydifferentfromthewayinwhichIamrequiredtothinkatschool.Overthesummerholidaysof2001IarrangedthreeweeksofworkexperienceintheDepartmentofMaterialsScienceattheUniversityofOxford.DuringthistimeIworkedwiththreedifferentresearchgroupsstudyingtheatomicstructureofsurfaces,useofthe3Datomprobe,andthestructureofmagneticstoragesurfaces.Theworkonmagneticsurfaceswasparticularlyexcitingbecauseitwasanewdevelopmentthatcouldhaveasignificantimpact.Ialsowrotesomedocumentsforthem,suchasaguidetohelpstudentsfindMaterialsScienceresourcesontheInternet.ThewholeexperiencewasveryusefulbecauseIhadtoapplywhatIhadleamtatschooltounfamiliarareas,thususingmybraininanentirelynewway.Iamakeensportsmanbothinandoutofschool,havingrepresentedmyschool,andtheOxfordDevils'under-17team,atbasketball.ForthepastthreeyearsIhaveplayedcricketfortheschoolteam,beingcaptainfortwoyearsIhavebeenintheOxfordshirecricketsquadformyagegroupsincetheageofthirteenandhavebeenaseniorplayeratBicesterandNorthOxford-CricketClubsince1998.PlayingteamsportshastaughtmealotabouttheimportanceofteamworkandIbelieveIcanapplythisinaworkingenvironment.Recently,Idiscoveredanenthus
