第一篇：考研英语阅读TeachingDoctorstoTeachPatientsaboutLifestyleEverybodyknowsthatdiet,exerciseandotheraspectsoflifestyleplayasignificantroleinhealth.Butthespecificsarelesswellunderstood.Towhatextentdoeslifestylecauseorcontributetodiseaseanddisability?Andwhatexactlyisahealthylifestyleanyway?Thereismuchconfusionaboutwhattypeofdietorexerciseisbest,nottomentionhowmuchsleep,stressorsexisideal.Norisitclearhowbesttomotivatepeopletochangetheirhabits.Thislackofclarityhasinspiredagrowingmovementtoinformhealthprofessionalsandpatientsabouttheimportanceoflifestyleinpreventingandtreatingdisease.Itsaimsaretodisseminatescientificresearchaboutwhatitmeanstolivewellandtoencouragedoctorsandotherproviderstoincorporatethisknowledgeintotheirpractices.Twoyearsago,agroupofdoctorsfoundedanorganizationwiththegoalofmakinglifestylemedicineacredentialedclinicalspecialtyandapartofbasicmedicaltraining.Symptomaticallytreatingdiseasewithoutassessingpatients'lifestylesorofferingthemguidanceonhowtochangeis“irresponsibleandborderingonneglect,”saidDr.JohnH.KellyJr.,presidentofthefledglingorganization,theAmericanCollegeofLifestyleMedicine.AprofessorofpreventivemedicineattheLomaLindaUniversitySchoolofMedicineinCalifornia,Dr.Kellysaidthegroupwasformedbecauseofpeoplelikehisuncle.Givenadiagnosisofheartdisease,theunclehadastentsurgicallyimplantedtoopenacloggedarterybutreceivednoadviceonhowhemightchangehislifestyle,eventhoughresearchshowsthatdiet,exerciseandstressmanagementcouldgreatlyimprovehiscondition.Dr.Kellysayslifestylemedicineisessentialinfightingthenationalepidemicsofobesity,diabetesandcardiovasculardisease.“Wecannotsolvethehealthproblemsofsocietyunlesswechangeourfocusfromacute,episodiccaretohealthpromotionandwellness-lifestylemedicine,”hesaid.TheCentersforDiseaseControlandPreventionreportsthat1.7millionAmericansdieand25millionaredisabledeachyearbychronicdiseasescausedormadeworsebyunhealthylifestyles.Anda2005studyinTheNewEnglandJournalofMedicinepredictedthataveragelifeexpectancyintheUnitedStateswoulddec
