第一篇：英国首相布朗2010年新年致辞（英文版）in2009wesaidgoodbyetoharrypatch,thelastsurvivorofthegenerationofsoldierswhoriskedtheirlivesforbritaininthegreatwar.aswemournedhim,werememberedtooallthosewhohavelaiddowntheirlivesinthedefenceofthiscountrywelove.lastyearwasparticularlytoughforourforcesinafghanistan,andwefacesomemoredifficultmonthsahead.inlatedecemberwewereremindedatthisdecade’send,justaswewereatitsbeginning,thatthereisaterroristthreatwhichputsoursafetyandsecurityatriskandwhichrequiresustotakeonalqaedaandthetalibanattheepicentreofglobalterrorismthosewhothinkthingscanneverchange,andthosewhobelievetheyhaveto.andithinkthevastmajorityofpeopleareinthesecondcamp.weareanationthatlookstothefuture,combiningresponsibilitywithfairness,compassionwithaspirationacrisisthathitbritainhardbecausethefinancialsectorissuchanimportantpartofoureconomy.butthisisanationoffightersandbelieverswhomeeteachchallengewithstrengthandsacrifice.wefoughtbackagainstrecessionbecausewestoodtogetheranddidnotleavepeopleisolatedtofaceadifficultfutureontheirown.britainhaslearntthebitterlessonsofpreviousrecessionsandiftheexperienceofthelastrecessionhadbeenrepeated,people’schancesofhavingajobwouldhavebeenfourtimesworseaftertheybecameunemployed,repossessionstwiceasbadandcompanyinsolvenciestwoandahalftimesworse.thedecisionstakenbyalistairdarlingandalltheministersofthisgovernmenthavemeantthatwehavealreadyseenofftheworstoftherecession.thereisnodenyingithasbeenpainfulforsomemorethanatanypointsincerecordsofthisbeganinthe1980s,andfewerbusinessesclosedin2009thanin2008.andiamconfidentthatifwecontinuewiththetoughdecisionswehavemade,unemploymentwillstarttodropthisyear,andmoresmallbusinesseswillopenandflourish.thatwasn’tinevitable;itwasthechangewechose.andsomymessagetodayissimple;don’twrecktherecovery.therecoveryisstillfragile,anditneedstobenurturedintheinterestsofthosewhowerehithardestbytherecessiontheysimplywantabitofhelptoowntheirownhome,setuptheirownbusinessesandgivetheirchildrenthebeststartinlife.becauseeve
