第一篇：英语硕士论文答辩陈述OpeningSpeechGoodafternoon,distinguishedprofessorsandeverybodyhere,thankyouforattendingtheoraldefense.Mynameis**.IamreallyhonoredtobeheretopresentmythesistoyouallandIgratefullywelcomeanycorrection.ThetitleofmypaperisFidelityorTreason:ExerciseoftheTranslator’sSubjectivityintheEnglishVersionofWolfTotem.Ichoosethisasmytopicduetothefollowingreasons.Firstly,IamalwaysinterestedinthetranslationandspreadingofChinesecontemporaryliterature.Asyouallknow,althoughChineseculturehasgraduallyattractedtheworld’sattentionwithChina’srapiddevelopmentinrecentyears,thenumberofChinesebookstranslatedandintroducedtothewesternworldisstilllow.Generallyspeaking,Chinesecontemporaryliteratureisnotwellacceptedbywesternreaders.ButWolfTotemisanexception.ItwastranslatedbyHowardGoldbalttin2008andhasexhibitedgoodmarketperformance.Sobythisthesis,IwanttofindthereasonsforwhythetranslationofWolfTotemhasbecomeasuccess,inanattempttosupplyananswertothetranslationandspreadingofChinesecontemporaryliteraturetothewesternworld.Secondly,sincethe“culturalturn”in1980s,theissueofthetranslator’ssubjectivityhasgraduallybecomeahotresearchtopic.Scholarsbothathomeandabroadhavedemonstratedanobvioustendencytoenhancethetranslators’statusandhighlighttheirsubjectivity.Well,thisisawelcomechangeintranslationstudy.However,manyarefondofstressingtheimportanceofunbridledplayofthetranslator’ssubjectivity,somuchsothattheypaylittleattentiontotherestrictivefactorswhichalwaysgreatlyinfluencetheexercisethetranslator’ssubjectivity.Thus,howtoappropriatelyexercisethetranslator’ssubjectivityremainstobeacontroversialissue.Soitisalsooneofmymajorconcernstofindaproperwaytojudgewhetherthetranslatorappropriatelyexerciseshissubjectivityornot.Thirdly,thetranslatorHowardGoldbalttholdsasetoftranslationthoughtsthatfittheverysubjectofthisthesis.Ontheonehand,hepaysduerespecttotheauthor,andtrytobefaithfultotheoriginaltext,andontheotherhand,heagreesthateverytranslationisabetrayalanddeemstranslationasanactivityofrewritingtosomeexten
