第一篇：英语演讲稿TiesbetweenChinaandJapanhavebeenstrainedbyaterritorialrowoveragroupofislands,knownastheSenkakuislandsinJapanandtheDiaoyuislandsinChina.Whatistherowabout?TheeightuninhabitedislandsandrocksinquestionlieintheEastChinaSea.Theyhaveatotalareaofabout7sqkmandlienortheastofTaiwan,eastoftheChinesemainlandandsoutheastofJapan'ssouthern-mostprefecture,Okinawa.Theymatterbecausetheyareclosetostrategicallyimportantshippinglanes,offerrichfishinggroundsandarethoughttocontainoildeposits.TheislandsarecontrolledbyJapan.Thelatestrow,inSeptember2010,wassparkedbyJapan'sseizureofaChinesetrawlerthatcollidedwithtwocoastguardvesselsneartotheislands.WhatisJapan'sclaim?Japansaysitsurveyedtheislandsfor10yearsanddeterminedthattheywereuninhabited.Thatbeingthecase,on14January1895iterectedasovereigntymarkerthatformallyincorporatedtheislandsintoJapaneseterritory.TheSenkakuislandsbecamepartoftheNanseiShotoislands-alsoknownastheRyukyuislandsandnowasmodern-dayOkinawaprefecture.AfterWorldWarIIJapanrenouncedclaimstoanumberofterritoriesandislandsincludingTaiwaninthe1951TreatyofSanFrancisco.ButunderthetreatytheNanseiShotoislandscameunderUStrusteeshipandwerethenreturnedtoJapanin1971,undertheOkinawareversiondeal.JapansaysthatChinaraisednoobjectionstotheSanFranciscodeal.Anditsaysthatitisonlysincethe1970s,whentheissueofoilresourcesintheareaemerged,thatChineseandTaiwaneseauthoritiesbeganpressingtheirclaims.WhatisChina'sclaim?ChinasaysthattheDiaoyuislandshavebeenpartofitsterritorysinceancienttimes,servingasimportantfishinggroundsadministeredbytheprovinceofTaiwan.TheMinistryofForeignAffairssaysthatthisis“fullyprovenbyhistoryandislegallywell-founded”.TaiwanwascededtoJapanintheTreatyofShimonosekiin1895,aftertheSino-Japanesewar.WhenTaiwanwasreturnedintheTreatyofSanFrancisco,Chinasaystheislandsshouldalsohavebeenreturned.ButBeijingsaysKuomintangleaderChiangKai-shekdidnotraisetheissue,evenwhentheDiaoyuislandswerenamedinthelaterOkinawareversiondeal,becausehedependedontheUSforsupport.Separately,Taiwanalsocl
