2022TheGreatSilentMajority英语演讲稿TheGreatSilentMajority英语演讲稿Thewarhadbeengoingonforfouryears.Thirty-onethousandAmericanshadbeenkilledinaction.ThetrainingprogramfortheSouthVietnamesewasbehindschedule.Fivehundredforty-thousandAmericanswereinFromapoliticalstandpoint,thiswouldhavebeenapopularandeasycoursetofollow.Afterall,webecameinvolvedinthewarwhilemypredecessorwasinoffice.Icouldblamethedefeat,whichwouldbetheresultofmyaction,onhim--andcomeoutasthepeacemaker.Someputittomequitebluntly:thiswastheonlywaytoavoidallowingJohnson’swartobecomeNixon’swar.Theythenmurderedmorethan50,000peopleandhundredsofthousandsmorediedinslavelaborcamps.IchoseinsteadtochangeAmericanpolicyonboththenegotiatingfrontandthebattlefrontinordertoendthewaronmanyfronts.Iinitiatedapursuitforpeaceonmanyfronts.InatelevisionspeechonMay14,inaspeechbeforetheUnitedNations,onanumberofotheroccasions,Isetforthourpeaceproposalsingreatdetail.Wehaveproposedtoceasefireunderinternationalsupervision.WehaveofferedfreeelectionsunderinternationalsupervisionwiththeCommunistsparticipatingintheorganizationandconductoftheelectionsasanorganizedpoliticalforce.Wehavedeclaredthatanythingisnegotiable,excepttherightofthepeopleofSouthVietnamTheydemandourunconditionalacceptanceoftheirtermswhicharethatwewithdrawallAmericanforcesimmediatelyandunconditionallyandthatweoverthrowthegovernmentofSouthVietnamIrecognizedinJanuarythatalongandbitterwarlikethisusuallycannotbesettledinapublicforum.Soonaftermyelection,throughanindividualwhowasdirectlyincontactonapersonalbasiswiththeleadersofNorthVietnam,Imadetwoprivateoffersforarapid,comprehensivesettlement.;AmbassadorLodgeandIpersonallyhavemetonanumberofoccasionswithrepresentativesoftheSovietGovernmenttoenlisttheirassistanceingettingmeaningfulnegotiationsstarted.onapersonalbasisfor25years.ThroughhimIsentalettertoHoChi.“DearMr.President:ButpreciselybecauseofthisgulfIwantedtotakethisopportunitytoreaffirminallsolemnitymydesir
