WeiXi(魏禧)wasaprominentphilosopherandthinkeroftheearlyTangDynasty.HeisknownforhisviewsonConfucianism,Taoism,andBuddhism,andforhiscontributiontothedevelopmentofNeo-Confucianism.Inadditiontohisphilosophicalworks,WeiXiwasalsoactiveinsocialnetworks,andhadcloseconnectionswithotherscholars,officials,andliteratiofhistime.ThisstudyaimstoexaminethethoughtsandsocialnetworkofWeiXi,inordertogainadeeperunderstandingofhisintellectualandsocialcontext.
ResearchQuestions:
1.WhatwerethemainphilosophicalviewsofWeiXi,andhowdidtheyinfluencehisintellectualdevelopment?
2.HowdidWeiXiconnectandcommunicatewithotherscholars,officials,andliteratiofhistime?

Methods:
Thisstudywilluseacombinationoftextualandnetworkanalysismethods.TheprimarysourceforstudyingWeiXi'sphilosophicalviewswillbehisownwritings,especiallyhismajorworkssuchastheYijingCommentary(易经注)andtheRecordofVirtuousDeeds(德行录).ThesocialnetworkofWeiXiwillbereconstructedbyexamininghisrelationshipswithotherscholars,officials,andliteratithroughtheircorrespondence,biographicalrecords,andhistoricaldocuments.Networkanalysistechniquessuchascentralitymeasures,clusteringalgorithms,andvisualizationtoolswillbeappliedtoanalyzethestructureanddynamicsofWeiXi'ssocialnetwork.
