Nondestructivedetectingcracksofpreservedeggshellusing
polarizationtechnologyandclusteranalysis

Abstract:Pickledegghadlotsofbeigespotsandsomelargeblackspotsonitseggshell,soitisdifficulttodetectcracks
onthepreservedeggshell.Apolarizationopticalsystemwasdesignedtoobtainimages,andthesystemwastestedbythe
Maluslaw.Polarizationopticalsystemwasusedtoacquireimagesondifferentpolarizationangles,including0,45°,
−45°and90°,andthentheStokesimagesandpolarizationimageswereprocessedbyimagefusiontechniquewiththe
StokesFormula.Accordingtodifferentdepolarizationmechanismsforblackspotsandcracksonpreservedeggshell,it
candistinguishblackspotsandcracksonthepolarizationimage.Themostconnectedareaofhighgrayvaluewastakenas
thecentertocutanimageabout100×100pixelarea.Fourcharacteristicparameterswereextractedtodistinguishthe
cracksonpreservedeggshell,includingthelengthofthecrack,meanvarianceratio,skewnessandkurtosis.Weput
forward4characteristicparametersandusetheclusteranalysistodetectcracks.Info-Kmeansclusteringalgorithmwas
usedinthisstudy,andtheclusteringofhigh-dimensionalsparsedatawereextractedfromtheimages.Theresultsshowed
thatallpreservedeggswereclassifiedintointactandcrackedgroups,andtheaccuracyratewas93%.Inthisexperiment,
thesensitivityandspecificitywere100%and88.3%,thedetectionrateofintactpreservedeggwas100%.Thevalidation
experimentalresultshowedthattheaccuracywas94%,andthesensitivityandspecificitywere100%and88.3%.Results
showedthatthemodelcoulddistinguishedintactandcrackedpreservedeggsefficiently,anditwasgreatpotentialto
detectcracksonproductlines.
